Der Lauf der Dinge
Der Lauf der Dinge is a creative exchange between Studio Julian Hetzel and theatre scholar Prof. Dr. Maaike Bleeker on the relationship between (political) thinking and theatre. The aim of this research project is to open up, trace, map and question the movements of artistic thinking: how do ideas emerge, collide, transform and eventually materialise as theatre?
The title Der Lauf der Dinge is derived from an artwork by Fischli & Weiss, in which the viewer follows how objects trigger a chain reaction of events, like a domino effect. One object falls, sets another in motion, which rolls away and knocks something else over in turn, and so on. Studio Julian Hetzel’s way of working can be understood in a similar way: as a continuous chain reaction of thoughts that take shape within an ongoing practice of exploratory making.
What is the artistic, political, and social force of this way of thinking?
